A major milestone in Scotland’s infrastructure development has been reached with the official opening of the Renfrew Bridge, a stunning new crossing over the River Clyde that connects Yoker and Renfrew in Glasgow.
The £117 million twin-leaf opening road bridge forms a key part of the £1.3 billion Glasgow City Region City Deal, a transformative investment programme aimed at boosting economic growth and connectivity across the region.
Opened in a celebratory event attended by local leaders, government ministers, and schoolchildren, the bridge’s completion marks a significant step forward for the Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside project.
Designed not only to enhance daily transport links, the bridge also features an innovative opening mechanism that allows it to lift for passing ships preserving the Clyde’s maritime function while serving modern infrastructure needs.
The project is expected to create up to 1,400 new jobs, strengthen investment prospects, and improve access between communities, businesses and services on both sides of the river.
With its striking architecture and strategic importance, Renfrew Bridge is more than a feat of engineering. It is a symbol of regeneration, progress, and connectivity, bringing people and opportunities closer together than ever before.
