More than four million receive emergency alert as UK braces for Storm Eowyn

A severe weather warning has been issued by the UK and Scottish Governments due to the expected arrival of Storm Éowyn. A RED warning for wind has been declared, with extreme gusts set to bring significant disruption starting at 10am on Friday, 24 January 2025.

The powerful winds associated with Storm Éowyn are forecast to pose a serious risk to life. Authorities have warned of flying debris, falling trees, and large waves around coastal areas, all of which could cause widespread damage. The storm is also expected to disrupt transport and infrastructure, leading to power cuts and potential interference with mobile phone coverage.

Approximately 4.5 million people will receive an Emergency Alert notice on their mobile phones, issued by the UK and Scottish Governments around 5:50pm today. The alert warns of the imminent dangers posed by the storm, advising people to stay indoors, avoid coastal areas, and refrain from driving due to unsafe conditions.

Residents are advised to take precautions by gathering essential items such as torches, batteries, and mobile phone power packs. The storm may also damage infrastructure, causing power outages and disruptions to mobile phone services.
