Roof ripped off double decker Bus in Glasgow bridge crash

It was a shocking scene in Glasgow city centre this evening as a double decker bus collided with a railway bridge, tearing its roof. The First Bus was reported to have been traveling in the wrong direction when it struck the low bridge on Cook Street, near the junction with Commerce Street, around 6:00 PM.

Emergency services, including police, fire, and ambulance crews, quickly descended upon the scene. Thankfully, there have been no reports yet of serious injuries, but the sight of the mangled bus has left onlookers stunned.

What’s particularly worrying is that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened here. In fact, it’s the second such incident in less than two years. The last crash occurred on 21 May 21 2023, and now, here we are again on 14 December 2024, with another similar accident.

To give readers a sense of already seen, here’s a video from 2023 crash that shows just how devastating these collisions can be:

As someone who regularly passes through this area, I find it hard to believe these kinds of collisions are still happening.

Are drivers unfamiliar with the route ? Are there enough warning signs about the bridge’s height ? These are questions I hope authorities will address as they investigate this latest incident.

For now, all we can do is wait for updates from the emergency services and hope that everyone involved is safe.

If you’ve been near the scene or have any thoughts about how these accidents can be prevented, feel free to share them. It’s clear something needs to change before history repeats again.
