Pipe replacement completed following major water main burst in Paisley

The incident that caused chaos in Paisley, PA2 area over the past few days has now been resolved. Following a significant burst on a strategic 30” water main on Neilston Road, Scottish Water teams have completed the complex repair work, which involved replacing a damaged section of the pipe.

The burst, which occurred near the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAI), led to severe flooding, traffic disruption, and water supply issues for residents and businesses in surrounding areas, including Neilston Road, Brediland Road and Corsebar Road. Some homes, particularly in Stockholm Crescent, were also affected by minor flooding.

Scottish Water engineers worked tirelessly to repair the 30” pipe, and footage from the site shows the sheer scale of the operation. A large section of the damaged pipe was excavated and replaced to restore normal service. Additional network alterations were carried out to speed up the restoration of water supplies to affected areas.

While most residents now have their water supply back, some may still experience intermittent pressure or discoloured water. Scottish Water advises running your main cold tap preferably the kitchen tap, until the water runs clear.

Scottish Water has apologised for the disruption and thanked residents for their patience throughout this challenging period. The incident highlights the importance of ongoing maintenance and investment in water infrastructure to avoid similar issues in the future, question still remains of a lack of emergency response taken a few hours to turn of the valve.

The repair has been completed, but for many residents, it’s been a difficult few days. From flooding concerns to the inconvenience of bottled water, it’s clear that this incident has had a real impact on the community.
