Major Water Main Burst Causes Chaos Near RAI

A major water main burst at Neilston Road, Paisley, near the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAI), caused serious disruption this afternoon. Footage from the scene shows water gushing down the road, flooding nearby areas, and causing major traffic delays. It’s been a nightmare for both residents and businesses in the area, who are now dealing with the aftermath.



Scottish Water crews didn’t arrive until over an hour after the burst was first reported. The valve was finally shut off nearly four hours later, around 7pm, after the incident, which happened at 3pm.

Many locals are asking whether the response was fast enough for an emergency of this scale. One resident said

 “For something this serious, the delay was far too long. It could have caused even more damage.”

 



The burst caused flooding along Neilston Road and as far as Stockholm Crescent. Some residents have been left with flooded properties, while others are having to rely on bottled water as Scottish Water works to repair the 30-inch main pipe.

Scottish Water has apologised for the disruption, and they’ve assured residents they’re doing everything they can to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.


Neilston Road is still difficult to navigate, with drivers being urged to avoid the area. Ongoing repairs are causing long delays, and many homes in the area are still without water.

Water supplies in the PA2 area of Paisley, which were affected by the burst water pipe, are now returning to normal.

As the supply is being restored, you may experience low or intermittent water pressure, which could be due to airlocks in the pipes. Some residents might also notice discoloured water. If this happens, run your main cold tap, usually the kitchen tap until the water clears. Avoid using other taps, such as those in the bathroom or washroom, as this could draw discoloured water into your pipe system.

To help alleviate the issue, Scottish Water is running several hydrants in the area to flush the system. This is a normal process following an incident of this scale.
